We see vocational education as a dynamic and valued route to success in the future, one that is open to students from all backgrounds, responsive to the demands of the global labour market, and deeply ingrained in actual industry settings. We see trades as forming part of the new generations of self‑employed learners.
Our Objective
Our goal at the European Vocational Academy (EVA) is to revolutionise vocational education in Malta by establishing a direct link between it and the workplace. Our goals are to:
(I) Provide work‑ based learning opportunities that give students practical, employable skills right away.
(II) Develop industry‑driven micro credentials that adapt quickly to changing industry demands and provide students with the flexibility they need to advance in their careers.
(III) Establish solid alliances with domestic and foreign businesses to jointly create curricula that take into account evolving technology and real‑world practices.
(IV) Encourage lifelong learning and ongoing skill development to help people stay relevant, flexible, and in control of their jobs and,
(V) Make Malta a regional hub for vocational education, drawing in students from outside and locally who are looking for new jobs, hands‑on training and career prospects.
Our Principles
Industry at the Centre
We think that industry professionals, who have the finest understanding of the workplace, should oversee the most effective education. Our courses are presented with an emphasis on modern tools, technologies, and standards and are co‑designed with top businesses. The end effect is an educational experience that is constantly up to date, relevant, and career focused.
Acquiring Knowledge through Action
The foundation of EVA is the idea that learning occurs best through experience. Through simulations, on‑site training, apprenticeships, or direct industry mentoring, every course is based on real‑world experience. By putting theory into practice, this method equips learners with the skill and self‑assurance they need to thrive on the job right away.
Using Micro Credentials to Increase Agility
- We support the usage of micro credentials, which are short, skill‑focused certifications that are instantly useful to both companies and students. Whether a person is changing careers, entering the employment seeking to learn a trade, or improving a particular ability, micro credentials offer a flexible and adaptable solution that keeps up with the times.
- Inclusion and Accessibility
We think everyone should have access to vocational education, regardless of background, country, or prior experience. EVA guarantees a varied and inclusive learning environment by accepting international students and providing a variety of entrance options into education and training. We want dropouts and NEETS to find in EVA a new learning drive. - Quality Without Sacrifice
Our goal is to provide the best possible vocational training, from curriculum development to faculty selection. Our quality control procedures guarantee that all EVA programmes satisfy strict academic and professional standards in addition to being pertinent to the industry. - Cooperation and Association
Strong collaborations with companies, educators, legislators, and learners themselves are essential to EVA’s success. In order to make sure that our training solutions support both individual goals and industry‑wide objectives, we listen, work together, and adapt. - Getting Ready for a Worldwide Workforce
Global standards must be met by local skills in today’s interconnected globe. Our programmes equip students with the skills they need to succeed in global environments by preparing them to operate comfortably across boundaries, cultures, and industries.
At EVA, our vision, purpose, and values serve as the cornerstone of everything we do and are more than just declarations. We take pride in providing an education that is empowering and personal in addition to professional and useful. Join us as we redefine vocational education for a future that requires talent, creativity, flexibility and a new perspective for trades.
Why choose EVA?
At EVA (Educational Vocational Academy), we believe education should lead to real opportunities. Our programmes are crafted not just to teach, but to launch careers and job opportunities. Through a dynamic blend of industry input, practical learning, and personalised support, EVA offers an experience that prepares students for meaningful work and long‐term success. In addition, Malta offers a unique blend of cultures in every town and village. With over a yearly 336 days of sunshine and good weather, you can enjoy the natural beauty of Malta and its sister island Gozo as well as its exquisite culinary delicacies.
Our Unique Model: Industry-Driven, Work-Based Learning and Career-Focused
EVA’s core strength lies in its unique educational model, built in close collaboration with industry leaders. We don’t just teach theory—we integrate current workplace expectations directly into our curriculum. Programmes are career‐focused from day one, designed to match the needs of Malta’s fastest‐growing sectors, including hospitality, tourism, health care, and digital technologies.
Our work‐based learning approach means students spend a significant portion of their studies in real‐world environments. This model accelerates skill development, boosts confidence, and ensures our graduates are job‐ready the moment they complete their training.
Learning Environments and On-the-Job Training
We offer more than classrooms—we offer learning environments that mirror professional settings. EVA’s training hubs are purpose‐built to replicate real‐world workspaces, giving students a chance to apply their skills in authentic scenarios. From front‐office simulations to kitchen labs and hospitality suites, students get hands‐on experience with the tools and situations they’ll encounter in their careers.
In parallel, our extensive network of partner companies across Malta and Gozo provides structured on‐the‐job training placements. These aren’t just internships—they are integrated parts of the academic journey, assessed and supported to maximise student growth and employment potential.
Student Testimonials and Alumni Stories
At EVA, success stories are part of our identity. Our students frequently speak of how EVA changed their outlook, built their confidence, and helped them land jobs they once thought was out of reach. Alumni have gone on to become full‐time professionals in respected companies, start their own ventures, or pursue further studies with strong foundations.
Here’s what one graduate had to say:
EVA gave me a second chance. I was unsure of my future before I started here. Through hands‐on learning and amazing support, I found my passion—and I now work full‐time in a hotel I trained at during my course. – Maria, Hospitality & Events Graduate
Key Industry Partnerships and Apprenticeship Opportunities
Our strength lies in the partnerships we’ve built across key industries. EVA collaborates with top employers to co‐design programmes, offer apprenticeships, and guarantee meaningful work placements. These partnerships ensure our curriculum stays relevant and that students graduate with experience and contacts in their chosen fields.
Employers like AX Group, Maypole Group, ST Hotels, and the health sector are just a few of the names who trust EVA‐trained students. Many apprenticeship partners go on to hire our students full‐time; a testament to the quality and work ethic our model delivers.
Governance and Management: The Board of Directors
Driving Vision, Expertise, and Industry Relevance with the Academy Leadership and Management Team
Leadership at EVA is more than just management; it also involves vision, principles, and a strong dedication to the academic success of students. Professor Joachim James Calleja, a renowned expert in vocational education and training both domestically and abroad, is in charge. Throughout his more than 40‐year career, Professor Calleja has held prominent positions as the longest serving Principal and Chief Executive of MCAST, Permanent Secretary of Malta’s Ministry for Education (2011‐2013), and from 2013 to 2018 Director of CEDEFOP (EU Agency for VET).In 2005, he set up Malta’s quality assurance agency for VET – the Malta Qualifications Council now the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority MFHEA. He is currently the President of the largest European VET Training Providers’ Association EfVET – the European Forum for Vocational Training. He leads EVA with the conviction that education must result in opportunity and empowerment, combining a global viewpoint with a local dedication. EVA’s Head Professor Joachim James Calleja strongly believes that Vocational education ought to be a top‐tier route to fulfilling employment and skills that last a lifetime, not a second choice. That is precisely what we are constructing at EVA ‐ our accent on trades will eventually open new doors to drop‐outs and NEETS.
Experienced experts with experience in operations, business, education, and student assistance make up EVA’s management team. This combination guarantees that the Academy stays flexible, realistic, and student‐centred. Every choice, from programme design to student welfare, is based on EVA’s aim to educate students for the real world thanks to their collaborative leadership style.
A network of knowledgeable instructors and trainers, many of whom are working professionals in their fields, supports this leadership. These visiting and on‐call faculty members ensure that students are acquiring not only theory but also the skills and mindsets that employers today want by bringing up‐to‐date industry insights into the classroom. Our lecturers at EVA are professionals who carry out the work they teach; they are more than just educators. Matthew Castillo a Consultant to EVA believes that “One of the key elements contributing to EVA’s increasing standing as a top vocational provider in Malta is its dynamic leadership strategy, which is based on excellence and industry partnership”.
Assurance of Quality and Ongoing Improvement: Dedication to Lifelong Learning, Accountability, and Excellence
At EVA, quality is a constant commitment rather than a box to be checked. Under the direction of European frameworks such as EQAVET (European Quality Assurance in Vocational Education and Training), the Academy has implemented strong procedures for quality assurance and improvement since the beginning. Every facet of the student journey is tracked by EVA’s Quality Assurance Unit, including employer input, student happiness, and the efficacy of the curriculum and instruction. Making sure that EVA programmes are consistently responsive, rigorous, and relevant is the aim. One of EVA’s students writes: “The content for the next semester was actually improved using the input I provided throughout my training. Here, you truly feel heard”.
Frequent programme revisions, industry assessments, student surveys, and internal audits guarantee that the educational process is always changing. These resources support an institutional culture that values ongoing development. Standard practices not responses, but proactive tactics include updating course material, implementing new technologies, and improving instructional techniques. Additionally, EVA places a high priority on the professional development of its administrative and instructional staff. Attending conferences, interacting with industry associations, and pursuing additional education are all encouraged for team members. This implies that students gain from teachers who are not only skilled but also current and motivated by their subjects.
Accountability and transparency are essential. EVA is transparent with its stakeholders regarding its quality objectives, outcomes, and enhancements. The Academy is dedicated to shared ownership of its achievement, whether that is demonstrated through focus groups with students, annual reports, or consultation sessions with companies. A graduate in Health and Social Care wrote “I felt more confident that I was learning the right things, not just theory, knowing that my course was developed with feedback from real companies.”
Essentially, EVA’s philosophy of student‐first, industry‐informed, and constantly improving is reflected in its approach to leadership and quality. This is what distinguishes EVA as a progressive organisation that genuinely equips students for the future, not just as a training provider.
